Description:

Renraku Computer Systems Data Extraction Unit is a state of the art data backup tool. Even if the user has forgotten any passwords or security protocols, the device can simply be plugged in and triggered and all the data from all of the mounted connections to that computer will be extracted to the DEU.

Game Information:
A standard computers test (Target Number 3) is used to connect the device and trigger it. Once connected the expert system in the DEU will continue to hammer at the computer’s security using the DEU’s rating as its force for any decking test that is performed. Note that the device pulls the data structure from the system and will therefore not remove any encryption or ICE in the data. In most cases a decker will still be required to enter the DEU to retrieve any useful information from the raw data. Also the device will pull the data from the computer in a first come first serve basis meaning that it will pull from the local machine first then onto each of its mounted drives in a sequential manner. Once the storage in the DEU is full it stops. The device ranges in size from a tiny 1cm x 5cm x 9cm device (rating 3 or less with 100 MP or less of storage) all the way up to a back pack size device. The backpack version (Rating 10+) is combat hardened (Body 8, Armor 8). Once connected (2 combat turns) the DEU will retrieve 100MP per combat turn.

Bio:

The DV-8s first encountered one of these units which Chips disdainfully referred to as an “auto-hacker” during the I Believe I can Fly shadowrun. Casualty Count brought one of these to the Federated-Boeing Auburn Facility when they attacked.
