The Shadow Runners decide to eat out after resting and recuperating from their last hair raising adventure. The place they decide on, primarily due to its nearness to their residence is the Bloody Steaks. Within these dreary walls they encounter Carol Riser who is their waitress and is clearly in distress. Upon questioning her, they find that her son Shawn has been kidnapped by her ex-husband Carl Riser who is ransoming him back to Carol for 12,000,000¥. Yes that is right 12 Million Nuyen. This gets the party’s attention. Upon further questioning, they find that Carl had robbed the Kurt Cobain Memorial Art Museum four years back and had hidden the stash before Carl had been caught by Lonestar and sent to prison. Carl was just recently released and went to collect the stash which he found missing. He kidnapped Shawn and demanded that Carol return to him the stash. The dilemma is that Carol doesn’t have it. In fact, she has never known where the goods were hidden. She gives the Shadow Runners Carl’s phone number and tells them that he had been staying at the Quik Nap on Nile Ave. The party goes to the Quik Nap and interrogate the attendant that tells them nothing at all.
The party contacts Carl and tells him that they have the money and are ready to make the exchange. Carl tells them to meet him at the tube station at 4th and Union Ave. The party arrives early and set up an ambush for him. When Carl arrives with Shawn they close in for the capture and after a very brief fight, he is captured. The party questions Carl and finds that his friends, Stan Marks and Ray Litta, had assisted in the heist. He surrenders their phone numbers to the party. They also learn that Carl has lately been staying at the Empire Records Apartments nearby. After some discussion as to what to do with Carl, a decision is made and Byk executes Carl. The party returns Shawn to Carol.
The party checks out Carl’s apartment at the Empire Records Apartments and finds very little. A little work on the street and talking to contacts and the party finds out that Stan Marks, formerly of Lonestar security, died two years ago and was honored as a heroic cop. Ray Litta is associated with the Russian Mafia and can be found in ‘Little Russia’ in Snohomish.
The party scouts out ‘Little Russia’ and views Berestechko Place, the place where Ray Litta is supposed to be staying. While in the area they go to Bole’slav Pectopah a small Russian restaurant and overhear the organization’s plans to escort Ray Litta to the Danse Macabra a night club in Downtown Seattle. The party trails Ray and his bodyguards to the nightclub where Doc views Ray Litta astrally and finds that Ray is dying of Pancreatic Cancer. The party plans to ambush the Limo on its way back to ‘Little Russia’.
With clockwork precision, the party gets in place to ambush Ray Litta’s limo. Pariah opens up with a carefully targeted rocket to the grill. Much to the party’s surprise, they find that the vehicle is unarmored. The engine compartment is shattered and propelled into the driver compartment. Through the smoke and flames, it is clear that the driver is a goner. As Byk passes the passenger side window he sees the second bodyguard is alive, and dumps a burst into him. Pariah pulls Ray out of the passenger compartment and can see that he is in pretty poor shape, smoke inhalation, burns, and severe concussion has Ray little more than a rag doll in Pariah’s arms. Pariah throws him into the van and the party departs. While he is unconscious, Doc casts a mind probe spell on Ray Litta and learns that the money is hidden at a storage shed and that though some of the money has been spent, 10,797,000 Nuyen yet remains. They head to Reliable Health Care where Doc’s contact Dr Maroni is the owner and drop off Ray for treatment, the party recommends keeping Ray sedated for the duration of his stay.
The party returns to ‘little Russia’ to the storage facility where Ray keeps his money. They find the place swarming with Mafia and even with three cars of Lonestar officers. They wait and watch, knowing that there chances are slim. However soon after they arrive, the three squad cars depart. Then soon after, two limos full of mafia depart. A dozen or so Mafia remain when the party decides to engage. With careful coordination, superior firepower, and the element of surprise, the party decimates their opponents with not a single bullet wound suffered. The party collects the loot and a handful of credsticks from the mafia members. A sizable pile of guns is also thrown into the van and the party returns to their Lair. Along the way, they are notified by the Clubhouse security system that a group of men dressed as soldiers from the California Free States is knocking on their door. The soldiers stand around for a few minutes then hang something on the door and depart. When the party arrives, they see a brand new California Free States dress uniform with three Chevrons denoting the Sergeant rank and on the name tag the name “Ambrose”. Pariah appears concerned as he takes down the uniform and carries it to his room. Meanwhile, the rest of the group are rejoicing about their new found wealth, a clear 2,000,000 Nuyen.
The party enjoys themselves thinking about how to spend their wealth when Doc’s, Pariah’s, and Byk’s phones ring simultaneously. Pariah and Byk’s phones caller ID reads Tovarich, Doc’s reads Dr. Maroni. All answer their phones and all are greeted with the same words. “I hear that you had a good time this morning killing a lot of my men and stealing a great deal of my money. Assuming you want to see your friends again, I think the time has come to have a discussion do you not?” in a strong Russian Accent. The party agrees to a meeting in one hour at Bole’slav Pectopah. At the meeting, an agreement is reached that Dr. Maroni and Tovarich will be returned to the party tomorrow at 6PM at the Seattle Space Needle for the sum of 9,5000,000 Nuyen.
The party investigates the home and work places of their friends and find that they are infact missing. They think and scheme and investigate as much as they can but at last they are resigned to the fact that they cannot think of a way to get around it and at last arrive on time to the meeting where they exchange the money for their contacts.
